I noticed that the wonderful Muxtape has been down thanks to our friends at the RIAA. The site is diplaying the following message;
"Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA."
A great pity as I actually BOUGHT new music thanks to the various lists I found and now I don't have access to that info anymore which is darn annoying.
Still things move on. http://opentape.fm/ is a similar tool that allows you to upload songs to your own webspace. Whether individual users are willing to risk RIAA wrath will be seen in time.

Sounds like another instance of the RIAA being heavy handed. I'd say over stepping their bounds, but if court rulings are any measure of such things they really don't many.
Having never used it I can't say if its was easy to "steal" songs or not, but given the RIAAs history anything that amounts to people hearing music and not paying out the ass for it = PIRACY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER!
People clearly want this kind of service but with onerous fees it's hard for anyone to do it legally and make money.
