How do you think anonymity affect VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)
Indeed, as MINK says, anonymity doesn't really reveal who you are... Who ARE you anyway? Are you the person who people know in 'real life', are you the one who is known by your work/classmates, or the one known by your family? Or the one know only to your lover?

The difference with what I say online in places like this is that I will say things about my life I wouldn't necessarily say to all people I interact with in public as it'd be a little bit too much info... but online you can do so as it doesn't affect idle chit chat and personal meetings.

Having said that, online I'm not anonymous at all, in that I use the same handle EVERYWHERE... the spoco2 you'll find pretty much dang near anywhere online will be me. Plus I have posted to files hosted on my own server, which without much snooping around will show more about me... So I try not to be a prick from that point of view as I know that it's a known name. Also, there are people in real life who always call me Spoco, so they'd probably be able to read an awful lot of ramblings by me based on that too.

So, in the world of anonymity I don't go for full, and so I guess that might influence what I say?

I think the main thing with the anonymity really works the other way for me. I can give some fairly terse responses to comments on the sift because ALL I know about most people are their comments, so you have this narrow view of someone and don't know all that other information that helps shape the place they make their comments from. As such you attack the comments more directly I think, and with less regard to perhaps offending some other thing about the person who said them, because you don't know anything else.

If that makes sense?

Forbidden 403s all over the place at the moment (Sift Talk Post)
And yet now, it seems to have gone away again.

All very odd, it was happening an insane amount earlier.

Kid is scared by sock lady
Poor kid... actually, quite a lot of the kids look pretty scared... perhaps not age appropriate material for the audience? There would have been nightmares aplenty that night.

Muggle Quidditch
Oh, I posted a story on this too a little while ago and discarded it through lack of interest... damn the sift and its fickle ways.

$1000 Dollars To Any Atheist Who Can Prove A Negative
Also, I quite like this video response: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=8G3osI7Nrw4

Although in it he says that he doesn't believe that the sun will come every day, in fact he's always skeptical it will. Which is fine and all in regards to getting the point across, but also is a little silly. Once you get to a certain point of having gathered enough data, and seen something fit a model perfectly for a long time, I think it's pretty reasonable to assume and be comfortable with assuming that said sun is going to rise at the prescribed time the next day.

$1000 Dollars To Any Atheist Who Can Prove A Negative
What insane bullcrap is he spouting? Scientists have no reason to know that the sun will rise tomorrow? Um... how about the earth is spinning at a (for purposes) constant speed and showing no signs of slowing, rotating at a constant speed around the sun with no signs of slowing, the sun is continuing to burn in ways that are completely predicted by science...

WHAT THE HELL DOES HE THINK HE'S SAYING? I mean really? I just... I just can't even begin to argue with a patently moronic idiot like this because he doesn't even BEGIN to make sense.

We can expect the things such as gravity, cause and effect and entropy to continue to act in the way that they do tomorrow because our OBSERVATIONS over a long, long long period of time have shown them to continue to act as we would expect. We do not see anything changing that would cause us to believe or surmise that they will cease to act in this way, so we BELIEVE that they will continue to do so.

Saying that we BELIEVE in something does not somehow mean that religious folk right... we believe based on evidence. They believe based on... well, sweet FA.

Black Mesa Source Trailer
OH YEAH!

I had forgotten anyone was trying to do this. But this looks superb. Will tide me over until Episode 3 I would imagine.

I tried playing the original half life again a while back, but it was a case of not being able to really get into it due to the poor graphics and lack of any physics.

I think the lack of physics was the big killer, it's amazing how you start taking things like that for granted.

Solid Rocket Booster Cam - separation to splashdown /w mic
Holy moly that was superb.

Just mesmerizing. The video on its own would have been great, but with the SOUND... that was amazing. Such bizarre sounds. For a large portion of the start once it had separated it sounded like it was breathing.

Just amazing stuff. How this went back into your personal queue is beyond me.

Is this the most disturbing anti smoking ad you've seen?
>> ^atara:
...what are they finding to complain about, I wonder? Aside from, "Oh no, it's making me feel guilty."

The issue is with people who aren't even necessarily smokers. Neither my wife or I smoke, but she can't watch this as when you have little kids of your own of about the same age, to see this makes all of your protection instincts come out and you feel horrible for the kid, and sick in the stomach with the thought of it happening to your kids.

"My Fury Will Be Like A Whirlwind"
Hmmm, Maybe it is all a joke?

Also, the videos stopped a year ago... so this may be an old joke.

I'll upvote as it peaked my interest.

"My Fury Will Be Like A Whirlwind"
Um, not sure I can upvote this... I just checked out another of his videos and I'm thinking he might have some serious problems with anger and such... This is the sort of video you see on the news after a guy has gone on a rampage...

Sometimes it can be hard to tell if this is a joke, and it's like a comedy routine, but I don't think it is (At least, I have yet to see a punchline).

How can help be sought for people like this who have a LOT of anger for no real good reason?

Tripod - "Oasnis Yeah"
Holy crap that's an old clip of them... on RED FACES! I had no idea they ever did that.

Tripod are one of Australia's best musical comedy trios... ok, they ARE the best musical comedy trio. (possibly only?)

Pity this clip is such terrible quality

Frank Caliendo on Late Night With Conan O'Brien
Because that first still frame of advertising is SO obnoxious, could you alter your embed to start about 20 secs in or so? This is how you do it

Lazytown's "You're A Pirate"
I do love this show Well, I wouldn't watch it on my own, but of the shows I end up watching with my kids, this is one of the more entertaining for adults to sit through.

Plus the messages about healthy eating and exercise really do get across. To see my kids racing around like mad things being Sporticus is wonderful (Not that they don't run around like madthings all the time... just sayin')
