From the submitter: "This video was created by me (Richard Seltzer) and Berthold Langer in February 1994, when we worked at DEC. NCSA (creators of Mosaic, the first Web browsers) and dozens of other organizations, distributed thousands of copies of this video, using it to help spread the word about the business potential of the Web, which, at that time, many business people found difficult to imagine. Thanks to David Wecker and Gene Kusekoski for converting it to avi."

Nice! It was so much less polluted back then, simple text pages. Brings back memories of college computer labs, netscape, and windows 3.1. What browser was that in the vid? I've seen the logo but I can't place it.

Pretty sure that's Mosaic, precursor to Netscape.

Yep looks like Mosaic. I remember when I used Mosaic for the fist time... Brings back memories.

Those were the good ol' days - when everything was in Times New Roman.

I remember accessing the internets through the hyperterminal. Blue backround with white print ftw. Playboy.com was the first website I ever freely visited.

hehe.. I liked how all the web pages had the same background color..ie defaults. I think I got onto the internet around 1995, using win 3.1, mosaic, and winsock baby! slip/ppp ftw.

my mom used to use a phone modem (the kind that required a phone be set in it) to get books from a university. I thought that was awesome, but not really practical. Seeing my first browser then made me think the world was getting ready to change. It did, but we are still just seeing the beginning of the change. My guess is that when we hit a good penetration rate of internet service that can stream 640x480 video, things jump ahead.

the "better" internet pages get, the less level the playing field is. That's a bad thing, but it's unavoidable.
