this is a great clip, that i was reminded of after reading a recent reply from bareboards.

I have been mad at Newt Gingrich for years. He was the architect of the successful Contract with America campaign. He created the list of words to always use when attacking Democrats or talking positively about your own stuff. It worked. And it spread like a virus, a devouring virus.

I suspect that he regrets this now. He talks about how folks learn things over the course of a campaign. I wonder if he was talking about himself, too.

Some bodysnatchers have taken over Gingrich's voice, and made him sound reasonable.

Definitely a sign of the apocalypse.

I'm thinking he's just getting started on a 2012 campaign early, or maybe just angling for head of the RNC.

I would be thrilled to think he regrets it. He sure sounds regretful.

He gave the keynote speech at Society for Neuroscience conference last year... he's turned over a new leaf now that he has nearly zero political power and influence.

heh. well, i'll say this much, in response to the (not-undeserved) occasional eyeball-roll from anyone.

i posted it in much the same spirit, that most of you have received it. a glimmering moment of honesty. not clarity, for that he has never lacked. quite shrewd. note his praise for two equally-shrewd democrats (cuomo and kennedy) while saying virtually nothing of republicans. he's even wearing both red and blue...

so, yes, his remarks could be seen with a certain "gosh newt, nice of you to finally say something!", or as a cynical ploy to drive traffic to his website, which may or may not have a more republican-themed message.
or, he may be as genuinely conciliatory as he appears.

either way, i'd be hard-pressed to find 5 minutes of newt, to which i would more willingly give a standing ovation.
